Project

The fundamental idea of this R&D project is the development of innovative ECO-friendly airframe TECHnologies from design to manufacturing to improve aircraft life cycle environmental footprint – ecoTECH. more

Objectives

Clean Sky 2 aims at developing environmentally friendly technologies for the next generation of aviation. This is the overall goal and target of ecoTECH. more

Challenges

From an environmental and societal point of view, it will be necessary to reduce the aviation environmental footprint through aircraft performance improvements (drag, weight and versatility) and an eco-friendly life cycle including a significant increase in recyclability as well as optimised material streams. This will be achieved by developing new processes and methods that enable Green Manufacturing, Green Maintenance and Green disposal and End of Life (EoL). more

Activities

ecoTECH activities and outputs are expected to have essential societal impacts. More than 3 million people are employed in the European Aircraft and Airlines industry. Therefore, strengthening the competitiveness of this industry and related SMEs through the development of state-of-the-art technologies is vital to Europe’s high technology and economic future. more

Progress

At the moment the ecoTECH Consortium is investigating the State of the Art of the leading edge technologies and materials. The next step from 2017 on will be to scope the most promising technologies and materials to investigate further on. more

Partners

The ecoTECH project is composed of 12 partners belonging to organisations coming from Israel, Germany, Greece, The Netherlands and Spain. This consortium comprises Universities, Research Institutes and private Enterprises. Each partner is of high importance to realise the objective of this project. This combination guarantees a complementation of each other with their distinct expertise, approaches and methodologies.

Work Area Leader

ecoTECH Project is co-led by Airbus, Dassault Aviation and Fraunhofer. They are committed to deliver the full Clean Sky 2 Programme throughout its duration. ecoTECH Consortium Partner are bringing key competences and technical contributions aligned to the high-level objectives.
